The Fireplace Book Club is making a highly anticipated return with a new initiative aimed at fostering community and discussion around topics important to EMS. The club invites all interested individuals to come together for a collective reading experience, engaging in thoughtful discussions once per trimester.

“You can either join us every trimester or select the sessions that pique your interest the most. Our book club is crafted to require minimal commitment while delivering maximum benefits for our families.” Ms. Cook says, “We understand that everyone has busy schedules, so the only requirement for attending the discussions is to have read the book! Our hope is that it will be an enjoyable opportunity to learn and grow together.”

In an effort to cover a range of topics that resonate with EMS parents and guardians, the book selection and co-leaders will rotate each trimester. This innovative approach ensures that every session remains fresh and engaging for participants. It you have a topic you are passionate about and what to suggest a book or topic for discussion please let us know!

For the fall session, the selected book is “The Anxious Generation” by author and social psychologist Jonathon Haidt, PhD. The discussions will be co-led by dedicated EMES parents Abigail Cook and Jake Cook, PhD, who are excited to guide participants through the themes of the book.

Parents are encouraged to purchase and read “The Anxious Generation” prior to the discussion session scheduled for Thursday, October 24, at 7 PM. Participants can sign up to confirm their attendance and join in on this enriching reading journey. We also have several copies of the book in our EMS library.

This new format of the Fireplace Book Club promises to be an enlightening experience for EMS parents and guardians, fostering meaningful conversations and connections within the community.
