EMS Athletics Celebrates Indoor Track Success

The EMS Athletics Indoor Track program is celebrating a remarkable season, showcasing the promising future of our indoor track team. With only a few years under its belt, this year has been a standout, culminating in the first-ever individual state champions for the team.
Coach Chafin Vrolijk expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments, stating, “The two relays are our first ever state champions for Indoor Track at EMS. A lot of that is contributed to our incredible upperclassmen, particularly our large group of seniors who have helped build this program and continue to stay dedicated and consistent throughout a cold winter season of training outside.” This dedication has clearly paid off, as the team celebrated its most successful indoor track season to date.
BRAC Runner Up
In addition, recently the girls’ team proudly claimed the title of BRAC Runner-Up. Notable conference champions included Eliza Warren in the 300m, Luga Samson in the 1000m, and both the girls’ and boys’ 4x400m relay teams, featuring Caroline Graves, Eliza Warren, Kate Piper, and Martha Wyse for the girls, and Jo Yutzy, Isaac Ott, Jedrek Sneary, and Luga Samson for the boys.

4 x 800 Relay State Champions

The victorious 4x800m relay team included Luga Samson, Adam Rhodes, Jedrek Sneary and Calvin Bixler. While the 4x400m relay champions were Joseph Yutzy, Luga Samson, Calvin Bixler, and Jedrek Sneary.

The team’s success didn’t stop there; the boys’ team finished 5th overall, with standout performances from Jedrek Sneary, who placed 2nd in the 500m, and Luga Samson, who took 2nd in the 1000m. Additionally, Marshall Nichols secured 6th place in the Shot Put.

Andrew Gascho, the EMS Athletic Director, praised the athletes for their hard work and commitment.
He noted, “Success comes from great team environments. The Indoor Track program, though young, has a strong and inclusive team environment that helps push athletes to be at their best. These two relay teams reflect the drive and determination that has been instilled in the program by Coach Vrolijk. These athletes have run so many miles together, and in Saturday’s championships they were able to showcase their training and commitment to each other.”
As the Indoor Track Season concludes, the EMS Athletics program looks forward to building on the many successes of this year!
