Bringing New Life to a Classic Legend with The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood

Excitement is in the air as EMMS is ready to announce and set to stage the vibrant and hilarious play, The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood by Mary Lynn Dobson. Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 10 at 7:00 PM and Sunday, May 11 at 2:00 PM for an unforgettable performance that promises to delight audiences of all ages.

With a talented cast of 37(!) enthusiastic students from grades 6 to 8, Robin Hood is bringing a whimsical twist to the legendary tale of Robin Hood. Additionally, EMMS students will also serve as dedicated crew, lights, sound, and tech. Mr. Nick Gardener has led a pit band for the last several MS plays, and we hope to involve middle school instrumentalists in this way again.

Fresh off their own musical success with Big Fish, EMHS students will be helping out in various leadership roles Eleanor Albers, Zach Halteman, and Sienna Kauffman are co-assistant directors, guiding the young cast with their creative vision. Behind the scenes are stage managers Jude Kempe, Cayden Curry, Wendel King, and Delaney Kauffman, their experience will add for seamless transitions.

Chloe Thornton and Annabelle Lehembre will dazzle with costume designs, while Kaidence Swartzentruber choreographs dance numbers. Samuel Aponte will orchestrate sound effects under the expert guidance of Mr. Mark Gornto, with auditory magic that helps bring the play to life.

Director, Joy Anderson shares, this production holds a special place in the hearts of many at EMS, as it was initially scheduled to premiere just weeks before the pandemic struck. Some current juniors and seniors were set to participate back then, adding a layer of nostalgia and redemption to the event. Eli Halteman, for instance, now steps into a role once meant for his older brother, Zach, proving that the show indeed goes on!

Join us for an enchanting journey to Sherwood Forest, where laughter, adventure, and heartwarming tales await. Don’t miss this opportunity to support young talent and experience a truly delightful performance!
