CHAPEL AND GATHERING
This Year, Our Chapel and Gathering Theme is “Tell us a Story...”
We are surrounded by stories that tell us who we are and what we should be like. At a time when the fabric of society is coming undone, many of these messages tell us that money, power, and status determine our worth. This year in chapel, we want to hear different stories. We need stories of God working in the world to bring something new and unexpected. We also want to embody the way that Jesus taught through stories and parables. To that end, our theme this year invites speakers from inside and outside the school to “tell us a story” that shows how God was present even when we did not realize it.
“Surely God was in this place and I did not know it!” Genesis 28:16b
In the task-oriented world of academics, we, at EMS, choose to gather for singing, scripture and story to focus our community.
Chapel (6-12) meets in the auditorium on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Gathering (K-5) meets in The Gathering Space on Wednesdays.
In chapel and gathering we seek to create spaces of belonging and thriving; spaces that train our eyes, and our very being, to see and participate in God’s work in the world.
Chapel and other formational spaces at EMS create the communal imagination and insight to listen and watch for God’s work in the world. Our classes and education give us the skills to respond.

We welcome alumni, area pastors, and friends as Chapel and Gathering speakers regularly. If you would like to speak, please complete this online form for Chapel and reach out to Maria Archer, EMES principal to speak in Gathering.
The Chapel schedule is posted at easternmennonite.org/calendar. Everyone is welcome to view chapel services on the EMS Chapel Youtube channel. Usually chapel is livestreamed. Chapels that are approved for public sharing can be found on the YouTube site indefinitely. Subscribe to get a notification when a new video is posted.
Guests are welcome to attend Chapel and Gathering.
To attend Chapel, park in front of the school and enter through the glass doors to sign in at the main EMMS/HS office. Doors to the auditorium are locked during the school day. Call 540-236-6000 with questions.
