2019 Bay Trip Wrap Up
For more than 15 years, EMHS has taken upper level science students to study at the Chesapeake Bay each fall. This year’s trip went to Tylerton on Smith Island, Maryland. Participants studied the ecology of multiple ecosystems, their connections to human populations throughout the watershed, and how what happens on land determines the health of the Chesapeake Bay.
This year’s Bay Trip included students from environmental science, organic chemistry, and AP biology classes and was led by Lee Good, and Kevin Carini.
The trip ran September 28 to 30. They set and pulled crab pots, scraped grass beds for crabs and other invertebrates, watched marine TV, experienced “marsh mucking,” identified species as they learned about biodiversity, created art, talked with local residents and, “played games, games and more games,” reports Mr. Good.
Dexter Beyer, transportation coordinator and groundskeeper, drove the bus.
