All of our EMS teachers guide and nurture our students on a daily basis.  Recently we have had some standout moments that we would like to highlight.

Jennifer Young – PE 6th – 9th grade, HS Drivers ed, SCO, Internship Program Supervisor

Young, a Bridgewater Hall of Famer, led the Eagles basketball team statistically, earning All-American honors and securing a spot on the All-ODAC first team. In the 1997-98 season, Young’s exceptional performance contributed to the team’s national ranking and inclusion in the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame as a Team of Distinction. Jennifer Young, finishing her career as one of Bridgewater’s top scorers, achieved notable records, including ranking third in career points and setting season records for points and 3-point shooting accuracy. For more information, check out this article and see if you can find her in the picture!  Young was also individually inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2017.

Mark Gornto – Middle school english

Gornto recently completed his work as co-writer and producer of a documentary-style production. It interrogates questions of power and differences through a series of interviews with Villanova University faculty experts and representatives from the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania. The production is featured in a new university-wide course called the Race, Justice & Dialogue Course at Villanova, Mark’s alma mater. Commissioned by the Office of the President, the RJDC is part of the University’s mission to support DEI learning while exploring the legacy of Villanova itself.

Rebecca Yutzy – Learning support coordinator, foreign languages teacher

Rebecca has completed the state’s requirements (and master’s requirements) for her special education licensure.  Yutzy’s studies started at Bridgewater College with a BA in French K-12 education.  Teaching French and Spanish at EMS since 1996 she obtained a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from EMU in 2011, becoming the Middle School Coordinator at EMS. If that wasn’t enough Yutzy completed a Special Education endorsement program through ODU from 2018-2019, balancing teaching and coordinator roles. Yutzy applied for the endorsement in special education and got a provisional license while teaching. This is a true feat of paperwork and red tape, but more importantly, will continue to help advocate for our students with special learning needs. Bravo, Rebecca!

Congratulations to Jennifer, Mark, and Rebecca on their remarkable achievements! EMS is proud to have them as part of our teaching staff. Young’s outstanding work ethic, evident in her basketball career, seamlessly extends into her classroom, showcasing remarkable dedication to both teaching and coaching. Gornto’s passion for thought-provoking dialogue extends to the classroom at EMS, encouraging students to delve deeper into conversations, fostering an environment where they learn, listen, and grow by thinking “outside the box.” Yutzy’s dedication to continuing her own education not only sets an example of life-long learning but is a huge asset to our teaching staff and student body.

When you see them, consider asking for more details about their accomplishments.
